"She wears sunlight in her hair
And violets in her eyes
And her cheeks are the petals of a rose.
She bears Love on her arm
And lilies are her feet,
And they carry Life wherever she goes.

There are graces on her lips
And rainbows on her robes
And her wreath is the coronet of May.
She is Fairy Queen of earth-
The wand at her heart
Is a Bud from the Triune Bouquet.

She is Mother, Queen, and Maid,
And God is her Child,
And her Courts are the meadows where They play
And her Courts
Forever and for aye.
She is Mary full of grace.
She is Queen of Eternal May."

~ The May Queen by Marie Fischer.

Salvete all!

Welp. I just celebrated my 26th birthday yesterday. So that happened. Now I'm closer to 30 than 20. It's crazy, but 10 years ago I was 16. I think that's about when I got my dA account, actually. Wow. So I've been on here for almost 10 years. Maybe I should celebrate that with a picture or something. :XD: Tempus fugit indeed. Am I right people?

Well, I graduated from college this past April ("And there was much rejoicing" ) so now I'm all done with my undergrad. I don't have any immediate plans for my life direction at the moment, but I'll probably just keep doing commissions and making art and posting it up here. Yay. And reading about Bohemond. That too.

:+: June Challenge :+:

Actually, I'll be finishing the bulk of my commissions soon and I'll have some time to do other silly little things this up-coming June. Would anyone be interested in doing a little June sketch challenge with me? It would just consist in doing one sketch or drawing everyday for the month of June. It doesn't have to be big and elaborate or anything, the point is that it's just something. I always feel more motivated if I'm doing things with other people, and this would be a good little opportunity to just get some art practice that I might not otherwise get. So, anyone want to do it with me?! :D You wouldn't have to post a picture everyday, maybe do a sketch-dump at the end of the week? Or if it is a nice completed drawing post that as its own piece.

Anyway, let me know in the comments if you're interested in doing it with me! I'd love the company! :D

I was also tagged to do one of the 13 Question Meme-things and I thought I'd do it, because, why not? My journal needs to be updated anyway. :XD:

13 Questions Meme
Tagged by GoingUp777

1.Whats you favorite tv show?
I don't really watch TV (whether on actual TV, Netflix or anywhere else), but when I was a kid I loved the Prince Valiant cartoon series (which ran from 1991 to 1993). I didn't watch the show when it aired, because I was too young, but my older brothers had recorded most of the episodes on VHS so we all enjoyed watching those together. Still a great show. :D I also really like the Sherlock Holmes Granada series (1983 - 1994) with Jeremy Brett as Sherlock Holmes. I watch those now on DVD, so does that count?

2.What is one item you would take to a deserted island you will be there a year?
Hmm, that's a tough one. If we're talking purely survival, probably one of those fancy all-in-one survival knives that have yards of rope on them, double as a hatchet, have a compass on it, along with fire-starters and a whistle. If we're talking about recreational, probably books. Either a Bible or the Complete Roman Breviary.

3.Would you rather be rich and alone or only be able to spend your riches on others?
Uh, how's that even a question? What's the point of money if you can't spend it on other people? :XD: I really enjoy giving people cool gifts (like swords!!!) so if I were rich I'd have a lot of fun buying cool things for people. :)

4.How often do you spread the word of God to others?
Hopefully everyday, but I suppose chiefly through my art, and hopefully by being a good witness to those around me.

5.How do you feel about people taking Gods name in vain (example: omg)?
In person, it makes me cringe, but for the most part I think that (as well as swearing in general) by most people is more of a default fall-back vocabulary for expressing anger, and often most people don't even know what they're saying.

6.Which sub place is the best in your opinion Subway, Penn Station, or Jimmy Johns?
Jimmy Johns. :) Love that #4 Turkey Tom. :D

7.What would you get your mom for mothers day if money was unlimited?
Maybe a new house? Without a 30 year mortgage on it? :XD: Other than that though, my mom always wanted to have a horse ever since she was a little girl, so maybe that's what I'd get her. :D I think she'd probably appreciate a free house more though. :XD:

8.Are you happy to do this tag why or why not?
Sure. I wouldn't be doing it if I didn't want to.

9.Whats your favorite dish to cook?
Hah. I'm not a great cook. :XD: New York strip steak is my favorite food to eat, but I've never made it myself. I can make eggs though! :D

10.What pet would you own excluding dogs and cats?
I'm not a big pet person, but a snake would be a cool pet.

11.what instrument would you play if you could only skillfully play one?
Either the harp or the hammered dulcimer. Both are really cool instruments. :D

12.Do you strive to be a good person always working on improving your shortcomings?
Of course! What else are you supposed to be doing with your life? :XD:

13.Have you seen the shack if so is it good?
I have not seen it, so I couldn't say.

I'll actually answer these questions myself too.

1.) What's your favorite or one of your favorite Bible verses?
There are so many, but this one is definitely up there:

"Fight to the death for Truth, and the Lord God will do battle for you." - Sirach 4:33

2.) What's your favorite literary genre and why? (ie. historical fiction, fantasy, etc.)
Hah, I gave it away there didn't I? :XD: Both Historical fiction and fantasy, as well as historical non-fiction. Short answer as to the why (because otherwise this could be an epicly long essay in it's own right) I love history, and I love the mythos of fantasy.

3.) What's your favorite (or one of your favorite) play or musical, and why?
That's a hard one. I suppose I'll stick with musicals, and say either Fiddler on the Roof or Les Misérables. Both are so good, both musically and story-wise in terms of profound character struggles in various difficult circumstances. Once again, short answer for something that could be a long essay all of it's own.

4.) Favorite season and why?
Spring, but only if it behaves itself and doesn't pretend to be indecisive and bipolar, fluctuating crazily between winter and summer because it can't make up it's mind. Incidentally, we've had a lovely spring here, otherwise I'd probably have said autumn. I just like temperate temperatures. I hate the heat of summer, and I don't mind the cold so much. But 68 degrees with a nice light cool breeze is perfect to me. Also, one can't but help feeling re-freshened in the spring after a long winter. It feels like coming out of hibernation and being alive again! :D

5.) What are you listening to right now?
"Welcome to Jurassic Park" by John Williams from the Jurassic Park soundtrack.

6.) What's your personal favorite quality about yourself?
The insatiable, ever-striving desire for the True, the Good, and the Beautiful.

7.) What's your least favorite quality about yourself?
My abject slothfulness. :( Darn you soul-strangling acedia! :shakefish:

8.) What are your artistic dreams?
Oh man, I have so many! Most of them are pretty little ambitions, but still. I'd love to build a private family chapel up at my grandparents' cottage, complete with an ornate gothic high altar and all the furnishings, as well as add in some of my own paintings as decorations. I'd also love to do an epic graphic-novel of the First Crusade, and complete some smaller graphic novels of Montgisard, Cresson, and adapt Alfred Duggan's Lady for Ransom to graphic novel format. I'd also like to do an illuminated gothic series of the Mysteries of the Holy Rosary and the Stations of the Cross. I'd love to do an illustrated version of G.K. Chesterton's Ballad of the White Horse, and maybe do an illuminated book of Psalms. I dunno, there are so many things....I could hardly write them all out here.

9.) What artistic projects are you working on right now?
Well, currently I'm working on a commission of Our Lady of Walsingham for an ordination card. Or...I should be working on it... :XD:

10.) What's one of the best things you've ever done/or ever accomplished?
Gosh, this one's hard too. More because I can't really think of much. I meant more of personal/moral accomplishments by this question, but maybe I'll cop out of my own question and say that one of the coolest things I ever did was going to Europe (both when I went to Italy and then Germany/France). That's not a personal, moral accomplishment, but it is something I did! Now I'll go away quietly in a corner and contemplate the lack of great deeds in my life.... :hmm:

11.) What are your artistic inspirations?
Where to start?! The Catholic Faith is obviously the biggest one, but medieval history, art, and architecture follows close on its heels. As for artists who've inspired me, just to name a few: Botticelli, The Pre-Raphaelites (particularly Edmund Leighton and Frank Dicksee and Lawrence Alma-Tadema), Victor Vasnetsov, William-Adolphe Bouguereau, Alphonse Mucha, Norman Rockwell, and Edmund Dulac.

12.) What's your Temperament?
Melancholic-Phlegmatic.

In a nutshell, that means I'm an introverted, intellectual, over-thinking, artistic perfectionist. But a very lazy perfectionist. :XD: Don't ask me how that works, but somehow it is actually a thing.

13.) What's your Myers-Briggs personality type?
INTJ (Introvert, Intuitive, Thinking, Judging).

Introvert(66%)  iNtuitive(25%)  Thinking(53%)  Judging(50%)

You have distinct preference of Introversion over Extraversion (66%)
You have moderate preference of Intuition over Sensing (25%)
You have moderate preference of Thinking over Feeling (53%)
You have moderate preference of Judging over Perceiving (50%)
