Our Lady of the Lakes

to us who are strongly oppressed by the vanity of life."

I'm not dead! I've actually been busy making a lot of artwork this past month, so much so in fact that I've gotten really behind on uploading things.
This icon of Our Lady of the Lakes was a commission made for a Catholic school of the same name in Waterford, MI. The central figure in the image is, of course, Our Lady in the pose of the Madonna of Mercy, in which she is depicted as sheltering her children under her mantle. The three children under her mantle represent the different grades and ages of the students who go to the school. Jesus, depicted as a young boy, holds up His right hand in blessing and in His left holds an anchor (the symbol of Hope, as well as the symbol of the school). The Holy Spirit hovers above the group, and in the background I also painted the waters of a sunny lake, which is, once again, a nod to the title of Mary as Our Lady of the Lakes.
