"Wadi Oasis" January 1st, 2009 Watercolors, HB pencil
I know, it's not very good.
This was just something I felt like painting on the first day of the new year. I love drawing desert scenes. For Christmas I got new watercolors that I wanted to test out. I don't know if I like them as much as the watercolor pencils though, the latter gives you a lot more control.
Oh, and "wadi" isn't the name of the oasis. It's an oasis within the wadi. And a wadi (you hear about them ALL of the time when you read the Old Testament)is typically a dry river-bed most of the year until the rains come. Then it floods. A lot. and you wouldn't want to be stuck in one when that happened. But I'm just using the term in a general "valley" kind of way.
I don't know whether the man is an arab, bedouin, tuareg, or one of the people from my own story. I suppose he could be any of those.
Thanks! I need to make more desert scenes, because I also really like them. I find desert culture particularly facinating as well. So hopefully I'll make some more but currently I'm swamped with dozens of other projects.
You did an awesome job for it being your first time. I always battle with my watercolors, but it's the only kind of painting I can do without severely massacring everything. And nice work on the camel. It reminds me of Byzantine art for some reason.
Thanks! Yeah, watercolors are difficult, they're like rebellious children. You just have to know how to work them the right way so they don't scream and fidget too much.
