To a Saintly Rose

Once again, this is for a friend of mine or her birthday. August 22nd, 2008. I am actually REALLY happy with how this truned out. It all rhymesAND it has a syllable pattern:

To a Saintly Rose


Though all the Saints are dead and gone,
Gone by the Pearly Stair,
I might tell God, He’d left one here
But I don’t like to share.
Because in this vast garden, full
Of bright pink, rosy buds
There’s a pretty one in reddest bloom
As red as Christ’s own blood.

Her flower petals soft and fair
Upon a slender shoot,
Her very saintly life, a prayer
As solid as her root.
Though only sixteen years of age
The Book of Life’s not through
And every action turns a page
By God’s grace and His dew.

Though I’m among the ugly thorns
That blister on the bough,
And you, the Queen’s own head adorns
And I adorn Christ’s brow.
May we always, like rose and thorn
Twining and befriending,
Until the days we’ll be reborn
And Heaven, too, ascending.
