Once when I was visiting my cousin's house I was leafing through some of my aunt's art books (because she was and still is quite an artist) and I came across this breath-takingly amazing photograph of Christ. I looked at the caption and saw that it was called "Veiled Christ" by a sculptor named Giuseppe Sanmartino. I really wanted to draw it, so I've finally gotten around to it and drew it today while I was still doing my Menthrid picture. I certainly have not done it justice, but there you have it. I tried, and I'm pretty pleased with the results. The only thing I might be a little picky about is that I don't really like the crown of thorns or the light thing going on.

I personally think this is the greatest sculpture I have ever seen. Sorry Michaelangelo, the Pieta is awesome too, but this just ranks ahead. I mean, that must have been SOOO hard to get the marble looking the way it does. You can see his muscles and ribs (and nail piercings) through a thin veil, that really does look like a thin veil! *gasp* It's just too awesome...:faint:

But anyway, about the statue. Giuseppe Sanmartino made it from marble (yes! marble! he *carved* this amazing piece of art! I still can't get over that) in about 1753 from marble. It's 70 cm wide and 180 cm long (2.29 ft. wide and 5.9 ft. long) (info from here: [link])
