Ouch by Theophilia Ouch by Theophilia
I actually did this awhile ago, probably sometime in January. This was really just a little practice with the colored inks I got for Christmas. Mostly for that big picture/project that I keep hinting on. I want to ink it but wanted to see first how the paper/board would react with inks and watercolors first, and I kind of liked how it turned out so hey, why not upload it on here. It's also pretty small, about the size of a playing card. Maybe a tad bigger.

The guy was referenced from this one dude from Branagh's "Henry V" here: (This video, [link] at 5:27 or somewhere thereabouts) I know, he's kind of spurting out the blood rather than spraying. Mine is a lot more of a spray, and in the movie it looks better. :XD:

A lot of people I showed this too said it was gross, but others also laughed out loud because it was "something you would draw." :XD: I don't think it's that violent really, but if you guys think it is I can put up a warning.

...I like it. (is that strange?)

Reminds me of how St. Stephen was martyred. Except with more blood...:hmm:

Thanks! :aww: Yeah, I'm trying to work more with inking. :D I really like the medium, because it looks really clean and smooth but I also have a lot of control--so that's realy nice. :D

The title is what I thought as soon as I saw this, even without looking at said title. :XD: Good angle on the face.

This sort of practice will be useful for the project, unless you mean yet another one I don't know about. ~_^

Heheh, thanks! :XD: well, I am working on this big "project" of mine--I've been working on it since before Christmas break. It's basically a montage for book that I read this past summer. I happen to have met the author (he's a friend of a friend) so I was going to give it to him. :XD: I've just been working on it for SOOOOOOO long--hence why nothing else is getting done. :XD: I would really liek to ink it soon, but I'm still in the sketching/drawing stages.

Yes! Far too many! :XD: Once I finsih this one though it'll free me up A LOT.

Yes it is! But I suppose we'll still have to think of mediums. Thought I think your regular medium and watercolor would work well together, because they can both look really cool and professional and have a nice storybook quality about them.

That's good. Fair fortune with it!

Mm, though I was thinking of using ink washes so it would look more liquid, like your media.

I like it too. I don't know, I think inks really give some pictures a very nice, solid, clean quality to it.

That's some projectile blood there! xD But it works, and I really like it. You captured the angle very well, and I love the border of blood. :)

:XD: Yay! (though I suppose projectile blood isn't exactly something to yay about.) :XD: I did work hard on getting the angle right. I don't know if it's perfectly right, but it looks passable enough that probably no one else would notice. :XD:

Man, I remember this. I saw the movie many years ago, and this image is pretty much the only one that impressed me enough to remember. Vivid.
I just got some colored inks at an enormous discount (think 75% off) and now I'm even more excited to try them!

I know!!!!! Same! the image was stuck in my head after I first watched it, and while it was kind of gross I was also like, "AWESOME!!!"

Go for it! Inks are pretty awesome! they have great textures and you can sure do a lot with them. :D

Soemtimes I use brushes and sometimes pens. Like I used the pens for most of the line work and some of the blood but I used the brushes (just regular, watercolor brushes) for the skin washes and for the background.

Isn't this rather violent for you? You usually do religious images. In fact, I thought, at first, it was a martyr being tortured.

I usually don't do violent images (or rather, I have not done any yet) but I really like battle scenes and I've had a lot of battle picture ideas that have not been brought to completion or just remain as sketches or ideas in my head.

:aww:

Well, it's not much of a story. ^^; It kind of started out as a character I was writing, because, quite simply, I really like the word "shadow" and "blade" and when put together it sounds pretty sweet. And I find the word aesthetically pleasing while also sounding awesome. :D :XD: And I picked "Lord" because it sounds better than "Lady" (which just sounds lame and pretentious). So there you have it. Mostly just because I think it sounds cool. :XD:

Thanks! ^^ Dramatic blood for the win! :w00t!: I'm kind of happy with the angle of his face too, it was a bit difficult to pull off, but my biggest concern with this was probably the shading because that's difficult with ink. :XD:

How did you get his skin color? Was it watered-down brown ink?

Yep. REALLY watered down sepia ink. And I just used some brushes and brush splatter for the blood and dirt smudges.
