Description

A Mother’s Lamentation
January 22, 2008

“A Voice was heard in Ramah,
sobbing and loud lamentation;
Rachel weeping for Her children
And She would not be consoled,
since they were no more.”

- Matthew 2:18

I drew this picture to honor the lives of the millions of murdered infants because of the Roe v. Wade decision on it’s anniversary (January 22).

I was mainly inspired by three sources, one was that I wanted to make a pro-life picture, two the images of statues of Our Lady weeping blood because of the many horrible crimes of the world, third, because of the above quote from Mathew. All these led to the making of this picture.

Our Lady of Guadalupe is, of course, the Patroness of the Americas, and this picture was aimed towards abortion in the Americas because of the Roe v. Wade decision. The Blessed Mother is kneeling upon the Earth, cradling the body of one of the infants murdered in abortion. Jesus, in her womb weeps tears of blood for the sins of mankind, as does Mary. The two skulls on either side of Our Lady weep blood and the smoke that rises from abortion clinics where they were killed (reminds me of the Nazis burning Jews in Auschwitz) cry out to Heaven for justice, and their cry is heard before the Almighty Godhead, and the Saint and the Angels in Heaven. Lastly, Satan in the form of a serpent is being crushed under Our Lady, showing that evil will not triumph in the end, and that even abortion will be ended.

In the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe, there are many symbols, one being that she is wearing a black sash around her waist, indicating to the Native Indians that she was pregnant with Our Lord. Thus, she is also the Patroness of all of the Unborn.

“I am your compassionate mother, yours and of all the people who live as one in this land, and of all the other people of different ancestries, those who cry to me, those who seek me, those who trust in me. because here I will listen to their weeping, their sadness, to remedy, to cleanse and nurse all their different troubles, their miseries, their sufferings.”

The name “Guadalupe” comes from the Nahuatl (Aztec) word “coatlaxopeuh” which means, “one who crushes the serpent”(Genesis 3:15)

I used this source for a lot of the information on Our Lady of Guadelupe: It’s extremely fascinating, if anyone wants any information on Our lady of Guadalupe, this would be a great site to visit

Our Lady of Guadalupe is like Rachel, weeping for all her children murdered in abortion. Because Mary is the Mother of all Men, because Christ gave Her to us all on the Cross. She is crying tears of blood because there are many reported incidences of statues of Mary weeping tears of blood because of her sorrow for the sins of the world. Here are just a few examples:

I made this image highly symbolic; the color is also symbolic (kind of like in “Schindler’s List”, whoever has seen that movie).

These are the uses of color:

1. Our Lady’s, and the Christ Child’s bloody tears
2. The blood-soaked garments of the baby in the Blessed Mother’s arms
3. The blood pouring from the skulls of the aborted infants
4. The bloody smoke rising to Heaven
5. The scarlet halo around Our Lady’s head to emphasize Matthew 2:18
6. Satan’s tongue, to show how abortion is a lie at it’s source, and Satan is the Father of Lies.
7. Last, and perhaps most importantly, the blood and water gushing forth from the Sacred Heart of Jesus, to show His Divine Love and Mercy to All and how He will forgive anything and anyone who is truly repentant.

(I got this pose from Our Lady from the movie Jesus of Nazareth)

I hope this is coherent, there’s just so much to say, and I don’t think I could ever say enough.
