Ink, pencil, Watercolor

I hated my other "portrait" of Mornai, so I decided to do it again. Unfortunetly, I really don't like this one very much either. I had to fix his face on ArtRage because on the original his face is so messed up it looks creepy. I love his horse though. :XD: Maybe I'll just make up some excuses to draw it more. :aww: The celtic border definetly took the longest. And the horse's rump and hind legs also posed a problem for me. I had to redo it several times. (By the way, anyone have any ideas for the horses name? I was thinking Blizzard, or something. But that sounded lame. :P Any ideas?) Celtic knots always take me a long time anyway. I wish I was better with colors, I just don't really like how a lot of this came out. Disappointing. Maybe I'll have to do him again. His face is so elusive. Maybe because I don't have a perfectly cemented idea of his face in my mind.

Whooohooooo! :iconridingplz:

UPDATE: The horse's name is "Greyfrost." :D Thanks *Professor-Kirby! :D

Wow...I envy your skills with those knots! And I think the portrait is lovely. I understand what you mean by the face never being quite right; I struggle with the same problem. But I think you did a very nice job. :]

Also the composition look great. nice work.

I know this has been mentioned already - but I will also state: I would stay away from using photos in the background, it looks all right, but you're detracting a lot from your stunning manual art - the linework is very tight and looks like it took so much time. But the photo seems like, maybe, an afterthought? It would look beautiful even *without* a "background" - the knotwork is done very well, it's good design :) A lovely piece, all the same!! I look forward to seeing more of your work :)

Alright, thank you! I really appreciate your input! :aww: I think that photos can work as backgrounds, but I think I just did it very poorly in this one. The background wasn't so much of an afterthought (because I really was trying to do a nice background with watercolors--and failed. :XD:) The background I had before really was quite horrible, I might try and re-do it sometime, who knows. *shrugs* The knotwork definetly took the most time out of all if it. :D

Again, thank you very much! And I'm so sorry it took me so long to get back to you on your comment! :XD: My inbox just got really, really full and I've been slowly trying to respond and clear out messages. :XD:

It may not be perfect (in the future, I would avoid using photos as backgrounds--your lines are lovely, and the photos distract from the awesome midieval fantasy mood), but don't be too hard on yourself, because this so wonderfully evokes Celtic fantasy. It makes me want to throw on a tunic and go look for adventure in the forest!

Kudos for the Celtic knotwork, I could never pull that off! Nice job :)

THANK YOU!!! :aww: :D  The Celtic knots took me a very long time to do, so I appreciate that. :aww: The reason I used a photo fr the background was mostly because the background I had was horrible and I hated it, so I wanted to do a new one. :XD:

Wonderfully done! :)

I like how the horse looks mossy. Em, if that makes sense. I don't remember seeing you use a photographic background before, it works well.

Gorgeous! I love all the detailing- the combination of the Medieval and Celtic feel, and the lighting is wonderful. The pose is great too- it reminds me of a Roman equestrian monument. Only his expression is much nicer than those are, usually...
