Blessed Ludwig and Saint Elizabeth
November 19th, 2012
Watercolor

I wanted to make a little picture of Blessed Louis (Ludwig) of Thuringia and Saint Elizabeth BECAUSE THEY ARE THE CUTEST SAINT COUPLE EVER but I missed Saint Elizabeth's feast day (November 17th). :hmm: Ah well. I decided to finish it up today, but, alas...I am bitterly, bitterly disappointed with how it turned out. :hmm: I really need more practice with using straight-up watercolors. I am very comfortable using watercolors in tandem with ink, but I can't seem to manage them by themselves. *grumble grumble grumble* Anyway, I'll have to do a proper picture of the two some time later. And hopefully it'll come out a whole lot better than this.

Precious!

The scene fits perfectly with the heartfelt stories I treasure of this saintly couple I love (since I was named for her! Saint Elizabeth of Hungary!).

Have you read the book? I refer you to: SAINT ELIZABETH, SISTER OF SAINT FRANCIS by Elisabeth Von Schmidt-Pauli, Translated from the German by Olga Marx, Published in New York by Henry Holt and Company, Inc. and Copyrighted, 1932. It is a gift to have this book on one's bookshelf.

Thanks! ^^ Yeah, I did kind of want to re-do this one. I'm not at all happy with it, and it doesn't do them justice. :hmm:

No, I don't believe I have read that book. My twin sister loves St. Elizabeth of Hungary (she's going into nursing too!) so it'd probably be a book she'd love!

So lovely and fairytale-ish! I love how their halos (?) look like they're forming a heart.

I'm sorry to hear that you are disappointed.
And, to be honest, I cannot understand it at all. Maybe because I am not an artist.

I love it. Absolutely.
I am not religious, but this is the best works I have ever seen mixing love and sainthood.
(Pls excuse my English, it is not my native language)

Eh, it's for a variety of reasons. It came out rather muddy; not like the crisp clean version I wanted it to be. :hmm:

But thank you! :aww: I'm very glad that you like it. :) And they are an incredibly adorable saint couple. :meow:

AMAZING!!! Beautifully done! What lovely colours! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!! It's AWESOME as is! :)

Very beautiful and sweet! I love this couple: an arranged royal marriage where the bride was raised with her future husband that truly became a love match. You didn't see that very often!

AWESOME WORK & EXCEPTIONALLY WELL DONE!!!

No you don't. I've really liked them for a while now. I'll probably have to go out and make so more pictures of Ludwig and Elizabeth. :aww:

I'm from Thuringia and know the story of Elizabeth's "rose wonder" very well.. Is it the castle "Wartburg" on that hill? And I really like your way of using watercolours, the background is so beautiful (as well as Elizabeth and Ludwig, of course). ;)

AH! That's so cool! I wish I could say the same. :D

I suppose it could be. :D I didn't really research what the Castle of Wartburg looks like so it could possibly be very different in appearance.

Thank you! :aww: I do wish this one had come out a bit better though. :hmm:

it is really good to see saints who were married
the Church should put more emphasise on this since there have been so many attacks against purity and marrieage

Awww! How cute! This turned out really nice. And I totally thought that you intended the halos to intersect and form a heart (yeah, the Sarcastic Wolf is getting sentimental in her old age). Great job with the border, too; it frames the picture as a nice complement.

Wow--every saint I've ever heard of has always been portrayed as sort of a "lonely chaste" figure, with no mention of any romantic love to be heard of. Thank you for introducing me to a pair that breaks that lonely standard--and in such a nice image, to boot! Love how their halos combine into a heart shape X'D

I know, it's kind of sad that that's how saints come off. :hmm: In reality, I bet saints are the warmest, most loving (and romantic, both in the platonic sense and literally) people. :D

Ah, thank you! :aww: I must confess, I'm not very happy with how this one turned out (the water shredded the paper so I wasn't able to do a lot of washes). I need a lot more practice with watercolor.
