Blessed Ludwig and Saint Elizabeth
November 19th, 2012
Watercolor

I wanted to make a little picture of Blessed Louis (Ludwig) of Thuringia and Saint Elizabeth BECAUSE THEY ARE THE CUTEST SAINT COUPLE EVER but I missed Saint Elizabeth's feast day (November 17th). :hmm: Ah well. I decided to finish it up today, but, alas...I am bitterly, bitterly disappointed with how it turned out. :hmm: I really need more practice with using straight-up watercolors. I am very comfortable using watercolors in tandem with ink, but I can't seem to manage them by themselves. *grumble grumble grumble* Anyway, I'll have to do a proper picture of the two some time later. And hopefully it'll come out a whole lot better than this.

Precious!

The scene fits perfectly with the heartfelt stories I treasure of this saintly couple I love (since I was named for her! Saint Elizabeth of Hungary!).

Have you read the book? I refer you to: SAINT ELIZABETH, SISTER OF SAINT FRANCIS by Elisabeth Von Schmidt-Pauli, Translated from the German by Olga Marx, Published in New York by Henry Holt and Company, Inc. and Copyrighted, 1932. It is a gift to have this book on one's bookshelf.

Thanks! ^^ Yeah, I did kind of want to re-do this one. I'm not at all happy with it, and it doesn't do them justice. :hmm:

No, I don't believe I have read that book. My twin sister loves St. Elizabeth of Hungary (she's going into nursing too!) so it'd probably be a book she'd love!

So lovely and fairytale-ish! I love how their halos (?) look like they're forming a heart.

I'm sorry to hear that you are disappointed.
And, to be honest, I cannot understand it at all. Maybe because I am not an artist.

I love it. Absolutely.
I am not religious, but this is the best works I have ever seen mixing love and sainthood.
(Pls excuse my English, it is not my native language)

Eh, it's for a variety of reasons. It came out rather muddy; not like the crisp clean version I wanted it to be. :hmm:

But thank you! :aww: I'm very glad that you like it. :) And they are an incredibly adorable saint couple. :meow:

AMAZING!!! Beautifully done! What lovely colours! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!! It's AWESOME as is! :)

Very beautiful and sweet! I love this couple: an arranged royal marriage where the bride was raised with her future husband that truly became a love match. You didn't see that very often!

AWESOME WORK & EXCEPTIONALLY WELL DONE!!!
