“Lord, Save Me!”
December 19th, 2011
About 7—8 hours
Watercolor

“Peter said to Him, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” And He said, “Come!” And Peter got out of the boat, and walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But seeing the wind, he became frightened, and beginning to sink, he cried out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and took hold of him, and said to him, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?” When they got into the boat, the wind stopped. And those who were in the boat worshiped Him, saying, “You are certainly God’s Son!”’ ~ Matthew 14:28-33

Hello all! *Les gasps!* I finished a picture! Though, in all honesty I should have finished this months ago. :XD: Last summer my brother went down to Mexico for a Spanish immersion program and while he was there he brought back several souvenirs with him, one of them being a picture of Jesus saving Peter from the waves, loosely based off “Our Refuge and Strength” by Morgan Weistling ([link] which of course, I didn’t know at the time because he didn’t know the name of the image, so I had to spend several weeks hunting it down because I at least wanted to credit the original artists’ work). My brother asked me if I could make him a copy of the picture (because he didn’t like the way the light made an irritating glare on it) for his birthday…which was October 16th. But, as you all can probably notice, I wasn’t doing much art during this semester (with the notable exception of the pumpkins, and only those in late November) so I missed that deadline, so I just asked him if I could do it for a Christmas present instead. :XD: So here’s my Christmas present for my brother. :D

I also like this image for another reason, because awhile ago while I was in some old pawnshop or something, I noticed an old German picture of Jesus saving Peter, with the caption at the bottom: “Herr, hilf mich!” Which means, “Lord, help me!” And for whatever reason, that phrase just became internalized for me, so now whenever I’m in desperate straits, or I just don’t know what to do, I always think of “Herr, hilf mich!”

This so beautiful augh. The sky and the ocean look almost blended, and Jesus looks so peaceful.

I like how "hilf mich" sounds exactly like "help me" if you say it funny. :XD: Oh German, how you amuse me.

THANK YOU!!! I can't take a whole lot of credit for this one, I was basically just copying someone else's picture of it. :XD:

German is very amusing like that. :D And then there's words like "Geschichte" that sound like you're cussing someone out. :XD:

Oh, well, whatever, it still looks good. :XD:

I love how they just string words together into GIANT words.

Here's the classic longest German word: Donaudampfschiffahrtsgesellschaftskapitän. :XD:

I recognize the "kapitan" part of it. :XD:

Am I remembering correctly that you speak German? If so, what on earth does that mean? :D

I took two years of German in highschool...but I by no means *know* the language. I know a few words here and there, but I don't remember a whole lot of vocabulary. :XD: I could probably read German out loud fairly well, but just don't ask me what it means. :XD:

As for that word, it means "the Danube steamship company captain" ;-)

I don't even know why there would be a word for that... XD
