June sketches: Page 1
Mater Amabilis
June 2nd 2017

In keeping with the little sketch-a-day challenge I'm doing with NikosBoukouvalas and Mahira-chan for the month of June, here's the first page. I didn't get around to doing anything on 1st, so I did four sketches on June 2nd to make up for it. I was commissioned to make an image of the Madonna and Child under the title of Mater Amabilis (Mother Most Loveable) so I thought I might as well do some little sketches to figure out how I wanted to go about it. Initially I was just going to sketch them with pencil, but then I saw the state of my sketch book (the previous pages had sketches from 2013 that I've never posted up here, though maybe I should) when the sketches were in pencil and they had rubbed all over each other, so I decided to do these with pen and ink. That way it won't smudge. Yay, clean lines.

The irony of this Sketch-a-Day thing has been that I haven't had much time to actually get around to doing my actual commissions and other projects, so maybe I just need to do simpler sketches. The poses of the bottom two figures are actually of my sister-in-law and my niece (she's SOOOOO CUUUUUUTE ) but I've thought for a long time that the poses are so nice I might use them one day for an image of the Virgin Mary and the Child Jesus. If I ever get around to it.....

Anywho, I'll probably put this in scraps later.
