Do You Remember

Description

I wrote this poem for my friend's birthday which is tomorrow on August 22nd. They're twins so I'm posting up two poems. :D I actually just made them up today. To make a long story short, I thought it'd be cool ot have poem-cards. I just stuck it on paint and put a background (whihc took a VERY long time to do, for some reason!) I found the background picture somewhere on google. Poems all mine. :D Here's what it says in case it gets hard to see:

Do You Remember

Do you remember, my friend, those long nights
When we were captives of those books
That we’d proclaimed our friends?
Do you remember, oh my friend, do you remember
Summer days spent mining
Gems found in those dusty pages?
Or afternoons debating
The meaning behind some ancient words of wisdom?
Oh dear friend, how we prowled the cedar shelves
Of ageless libraries
In the days when we were young.

Ah, but surprises are the stuff of life
Though a pleasant one be rare
I can think of few more pleasant
Than the day I found you there
With golden laughs to share.
And now that we have finally met,
Under the same bright summer sky
We can do it all, together!
And find comfort that comes, sure as dawn
In the meeting of soul’s-sister.

But now, dear friend, I wish you well
In your coming sixteenth year
Its common-held that cars might bring you cheer.
But I know better, oh my friend,
How with your book in hand,
You will climb to some high place
And from all the world, demand
A place of silence, quiet, peace,
To read your book of choice.
And let the silly world run by
While by the knights of old you fight
In lands across the sea.

I shall join you there, my friend,
Though long the years go by,
And we shall fight there, side by side
With the Divine-red cross of Christ a-blazoned
On surcoat, sword and shield.
Oh! How I shall fight there, by your side
Until the last long fight be over.

Ah yes, and one little note. * When my twin sister read my poem, she said, "What the heck! 'In the days when we were young?'! You're only seventeen!" To which I might add, When we were younger. :XD: It sounds so much cooler the former way. :D

I love this poem! It's fun to lose oneself in books :)
