PREVIOUS ~:+:~ NEXT

In which Godfrey and Jacques try to get less lost than they are and in which GODFREY TAKES OFF HIS HELMET AND WE FINALLY GET TO SEE HIS ARMING CAP. :iconlegaspplz:

Whew. Done with this one finally. Sorry guys, I donít really have much of an excuse for why this one is late. And weíve all heard the ďIím-lazyĒ one, so, erm, yeah. :XD: But the last few days weíve been doing lots of housework, so thatís why it didnít get done on, say, Monday or so. Oh well. I GOT A HEADSTART ON THE NEXT ONE, so maybe Iíll kick myself in gear and actually be diligent. Oh, and Starcraft II has entered my life. So Iíve been playing that a lot too. What can I say, my days are just jam-packed with important things to do. ;-)

I also kind of just like how Godfrey is struggling to take off his coif and Jacques is just so chill (and tired). :giggle: A bit more dialogue in this one. ;-) I know you guys, ITíS GETTING SUPER INTENSE AND ACTION-PACKED WHAT WITH ALL THAT TRYING TO GET UN-LOST. ;-) But donít you worry, itíll start picking up fairly quickly. ;-)

Oh lament, LAMENT! That last panel. Gosh Godfrey, I worked SO long on that, and I don't even know what to think of it anymore. You did NOT COOPERATE!! :shakefist:

Yaíll can see those two little horse-shaped figures climbing up that hill in the fourth panel, right? Or did I make that too dark?

Oh, and credit must go where credit is due. I could NOTófor the life of meóget a good pose/looking thing for Godfrey going on, so I had to use a reference. So thank you to *SenshiStock for this image: [link] . Much appreciated.

Great contrast with when they get out into the open! Also I really like the shading on Godfrey's face in the last panel.

I LOVE Godfrey's helmet hair in the last panel. XD I really like all the panels, actually, but I think my favorite is the fifth. Great job with their expressions, especially Jacques's in the sixth. Poor thing looks so exhausted! And for some reason, the panel with Godfrey pointing makes me very happy. I think it's because of the way you draw cloaks or something. ;p Seriously though, the movement of the fabric is great in that one in particular.

Heehee.... :D I was very happy with that panel too, it was tricky at first because I had the dialogue in different pnales but then I thought, "Oh hey! Why not just combine their dialogue in one panel!" Thus: the fifth panel. ;-) Poor Jacqusies. Wearing a hauberk and spangenhelm and everything in the hot Egyptian sun can make one very, very tired. Godfrey had the right idea about taking his helmet off. :XD: (I wanted to have a panel of him wiping his brow with the arming cap but that wouldn't really fit, but I still like the idea. :D)

Thanksies! :giggle:

I do not think this will end well. Shortcuts = getting lost.

Also, it's kind of funny how scary and inhuman Godfrey looks with the helmet on and how gentle and monk-like without.

Yeah, his half-helm does look slightly intimidating? Well, that was probably the point...plus protection for the face and all that other jazz. ;-) Yay, our old beloved Godfrey! ^^

Whoah, I'm very impressed with Jacques' profile at the bottom left. I think you've successfully managed to break away from your characteristic face and do something way different. Way to go!!! Yay!!! You deserve a disco biscuit! :biscuit: :highfive: :w00t:

Thank you! I've been working hard with this comic to stretch myself a bit when it comes to poses and facial expressions. Comics are just different because you hAVE to stretch yourself. There's such a variety of moods and poses that you have to get down...unlike in standard portraiture or whatnot. :)

I for one love how Godfrey turned out in that last panel - and the setting sun in the background. Oh Godfrey, how we love thee. :dummy: I like how you did the calligraphy a little smaller in the second-to-last panel - it reflects how Jacques might say it: a little quieter than his fourth panel complaints.

The horses really turned out great in this page as well, so kudos for that! And those cliffs...*sigh* Although I am kind of happy for you that you'll now get a change of pace from having to draw them so much. :)

Looking forward to the next page! :D

Well, I suppose I'm reconciled to his face now, but I wasn't when I finally finished it or when I posted it. :XD: Maybe sometimes it's just good to get your eyes off of the picture you've been working on forever and then come back with fresh eyes. :)

GAH-FWEE!! :iconlaplz:

Yep! I'm glad you noitcied that! It's easier to do with digital typefacing fonts of course, but I wanted to try and make Jacques' dialogue smaller, so I'm glad you noticed that. ;-)

Well...we'll see how much of a break I get from drawing those cliffs. ;-)

Oh phooey. :hmm: I'll have to be more careful about far-away shots next time. It looked fine with the pencil...I just made it too dark when I inked the rocks. :( But they are the little dark blobs going up that small incline...up the right of the canyon. I suppose what's important though is whether you can tell that they went up along the canyon tops. If not, well...then spatially its just bizarre. :XD:

Lazy?! There's so much detail in this, how can you call it lazy? The faces! the horses! the armour! the rocks! I think I wouldn't have managed more than two panels before losing motivation. (I've been meaning to create a Sir Gawain and the Green Knight graphic novel for over a year now and never even dared to start for fear of never finishing it. THAT is lazy!)

Also, I really admire how you manage to keep your characters consistent. Mine rarely look the same twice. And you must've put quite a bit of research into the armour and costuming.

What's wrong with the last panel?

Thanks Qitian! :D Well, I guess the work itself isnt lazy, I meant more that I am lazy--lazy getting to work on it. So it takes a really long time to finish. :XD:

Heheh, I lose motivation everytime I finish a page. :XD: But then it comes back the next week. ;-) Crazy muse.

Hey, hey, that isn't lazy! I was planning on doing THIS for two years and I've only just started working on it recently! And doing a graphic novel of Gawain and the Green Knight: DO IT! DO IT! DOOOOO IIIT!!!! :eager:

A miracle that. I'm not sure how, but they have managed to be somewhat consistent. But that could also be greatly helped by the fact that Jacques' spangenhelm takes up a good bit of his face and Godfrey has only recently unveiled his'. :XD: So...I hope they stay consistent. :giggle: Mine rarely look the same twice either. Something I hope this comic will help me practice too. :D Heh. Well lots of "research" though I don't think I would term it as such. It's far too much fun! :D I pretty much just read Oakeshott. He's a great medieval historian (and artist!) so he has a TON of invaluable period information. And besides that, making the stuff oneself sure helps to give one a better idea of how the fabric and armor works. :D ;-) But I suppose you know all about that with your crazy-awesome Feanorian-star gambeson. ;-)

The last panel? Oh, I dunno...I suppose it's mostly just my inner artistic stickler. I couldn't really decide whether I think it looks like how I imagine Godfrey or not. Talk about indecisive! :XD: :giggle: Whatev, I'll get over it. ;-)

As long as it keeps coming back, all's well, right? :D
Earl
I dunno, I immediately recognised Godfrey from previous illustrations you posted. So I'd say he definitely looks like himself. ;)

Hey, just because it's FUN doesn't mean it isn't research. I had disturbing amounts of fun doing the research for my master's thesis - so much that I actually felt guilty for a bit because everyone else seemed to be doing these reeeeally dry boring topics and I was having so much fun with my Early Modern text types, that just didn't seem fair, right? - But the others seemed to consider their dry boring topics interesting, and couldn't imagine anyone would enjoy looking at all these old texts and doing statistics on different linguistic forms in them, so I guess it's all a matter of perspective. And when the research bit was over and we all had to write our theses, well, we were all suffering the same! ;)
But yeah, working on something oneself helps a lot with understanding how it works. Goes for building as well. (We've been renovating our old farmhouse for four years now and I've learned things about timberwork and clay plaster I'd never have dreamed about. :D)
