:wow:

Wait, what? ART?

Yes, yes, I'm actually posting something half-way decent for once. You guys, I'm REALLY sorry I've been taking some a ridiculously protracted hiatus. It's kind of insane. I promise I'll post more art soon. PROMISE. In the meantime, what do you guys really want to some me post more of? The comic? I just feel bad that I haven't been updating much recently, so I'll treat you guys. :)

But anyway, to this picture itself. ~SaxonwithAxe and myself have been trying to help each other with our respective stories, and I decided I wanted to have a go drawing her characters, if only so she could see how I imagine them from the general impression I've gotten from reading her stuff. So...you guys will probably see more characters from her story. ;-)

Introducing: Cormath and Maikam! Who are the two primary antagonists from ~SaxonwithAxe's story-in-the-making. Cormath is the guy on the left, on the throne, while Maikam is on the right. King Cormath usurped the throne supported by his followers, of which Maikam is the chief and foremost (so, pretty much Cormath's right-hand man).

Hah. Well...this started out being a simple little character sketch and then...well...the celtic knots were fun. And I got a little crazy. And then, well, the room needed some FURNISHINGS, didn't it? So I did some more fun celtic knotting work on the tapestries and the rug and the throne. BECAUSE ITS FUN. I'm also actually rather happy with how the guys came out too. :) Many thanks also to ~SaxonwithAxe who was kind enough to acquiesce to my request and give this little picture the "=Gold-Seven-parchment" treatment in Photoshop. :) And as a bonus, I think she also added some shadows behind them. :D

There was also no inspiration from Skyrim. NONE AT ALL. Not even the Skyrim-Jarl slouch. [link] and [link] Nope.

I know right? >_<;;;

I've been horrendously busy, my latest journal entry has a brief summary. ^^;

P.S.

Since you liked the last Elder Scrolls, I kinda figured you'd have something here related to Skyrim (even if it just reference. ;p) I was playing it for a while and could have continued if my old PC hadn't died. >_<;;;

I just read it! Congratulations on graduated and getting a job and all that! That's fantastic! :D

Yeah, I still haven't ended up beating Skyrim. I got to about level 74, installed a plug-in for mounted combat, and then found out that my main quest got all screwed up so I couldn't finish it. :XD:

Thanks! It's been tough. Heck right now, we're getting pretty understaffed and my job's threatening to get swamped. >.<;; I'm still thinking of what stuff I can put out here though (and I think I've got it but I need to find more time to try it out first...)

Oh and you're lucky to have reached 74! I was still about 20 the last time I played. XD

I'm surprised you haven't done any fanart featuring your char. Been busy too I guess? ;p

Oooh, sorry to hear that. :hmm: I hope your job is going better now!

I've done a little bit (two of those miniature portraits that I've been doing lately) but honestly, I seem to get more of an inspiration kick out of drawing my beloved little Templars than my own poor neglected characters. :XD:

This picture is pretty epic and makes me want to read the story! :D I swear, it's so hard to find good original stories here on dA.

Anyways, the details are amazing, the expressions on their faces are very antagonistic, and once again I am jealous of your ability to draw robes/cloaks/armour so well! :XD: Keep up the good work!

Thank you! ^^

Yeah, I like her characters a lot too. :D She's still in the process of world-building and plot-construction, so I don't know how long it'll be until she's done writing it, but i can pretty much guarantee it'll be awesome to read. :D

I like all of the details and the guy's expression on the throne. And the sepia tone is cool. :highfive:

By the way, I'm finally getting your pictures framed. It's my birthday present from my grandparents (because I didn't want a big fancy dinner or anything like they wanted to do for me). I'm excited to actually look at them on a regular basis. :D I hope they turn out nice.

Awww, but it *IS* fun! Once you get past the frustration of having no idea what the celtic knots are doing, etc, etc, it's actually quite repetitive and fun. :D

...the detail... the knotwork (my latest obession, I know how difficult that is to plan and draw, and you did a spectacular job!)... I love it. Wonderful job.

Knotwork is ridiculously fun. :D Alas, I really have very little idea about how to construct my own designs, so I always have references handy to use, though I'll often improvise on certain designs, which I did in this piece (particularly on the throne back). I think the secret to celtic knotwork is just figuring out the pattern. Once you have the pattern down and have simplified it enough to do so, then the rest is easy. :D

References are mandatory! I'm still struggling to see the underlying "gridwork," per se, beneath the designs so I can copy them into my own work and have all the strands be even. I just can't believe how much awesome knotwork you have crammed in there, it must have taken you hours!

Yeah, I don't really follow a gridwork pattern so much (mostly because I usually just use it for borders) so I mostly just think of it as different strands being braided in a different way. :XD: But I still need lots of references. ;-)

*snerk* I like it. "It's my throne, and I can slouch if I want to, darn it. You got a problem, you take it up with him."

...and I can't even begin to express my envy of the knotwork. Or how nice it would be to have a fur-lined cloak in this inadequately heated old house. Or how terrible an idea it would be to steal Maikam's huge gorgeous belt and Cormath's bracers (neither of which would fit me anyway unless one of these guys is just a lot punier than they look in the picture).

Hahahah, very glad you like it. ;-) I'm not gonna lie, I would legitimately steal Cormath and Maikam's belts and cloaks. :XD: And sell 'em on eBay at the very least. ;-) I'm sure they could fetch a good price. :XD:

Very cool! Great work on the light and shadows. Also - I know I say this all the time, but that doesn't make it any less true :XD: - the detail work is fantastic. I like how your detail doesn't detract from the focus of the piece so the viewer doesn't feel bogged down by a barrage of little things. And the fur trimming on the robes has very nice texture to it. Maikam looks like one seriously imposing dude, by the way. Although Cormath looks a bit petulant - kind of like "do I still have to sit on this bleepin' throne?" (but since I'm not familiar with the story, maybe that's how his character is).

Anyhow, nice job!

Danke! :dance: Hahahah, I think sometimes (probably more often than not) the level of detail does tend to detract from the overall piece, but I'm glad it doesn't in this one. The composition int this one is fairly simple too--which certainly helps--especially since it only gives me so much I can lavish detail on. ;-)

Eh...for the characters, Maikam is supposed to be very imposing, yes. Cormath is...complicated. So much so in fact that his author still hasn't quite figured out what to do with him. :XD: Petulant might be the right word there though, he's definitely brooding about something. :XD:
