Celtic Cross by Theophilia Celtic Cross by Theophilia
"Celtic Cross"
March 11th, 2010
Pencil, Sharpe Pens

This is just a little design I did for an AP art assignment. We each had to make a design for the front of the our graduation Mass booklet or soemthing. So I chose a Celtic cross, because I thought it'd be cool. I think it's appropriate, since it's March and all. Hurray for the Irish! :w00t!:

Would you mind if I used this as a platform to build a tattoo I'm considering?
not verbatim, probably, but this is very close to what I have in mind, and since I've a poor hand at drawing, I have to rely on others' images to give my artist a closer idea to what I want than saying "a celtic cross with true celtic knotwork and a triskele"

Ah nice..I always wanted to try some celtic knotwork but i'm slightly intimidated..it looks too complex. :XD: You got it right though, may i ask how long did it take you?

Thanks! :D Hahah, I STILL find celtic knots intimidating. :XD: I suppose the nice thing about celtic knots is that if you know what you're doing and you know what's going on with the pattern it only LOOKS complicated, but is really very simple. This one probably took my 2 and half hours to 3. I can't really remember exactly how long it took, but somewhere thereabouts. Really, wat takes the longest (for me) is planning out all of the lines, because I tend to work fast and make mistakes easily I like to plan and draw out EVERYTHING before I go over it in pen. That way I won't make mistaes as easily. And if you are just starting off I'd definety use some references pictures. The knots I used here are all fairly easy ones, very straight forward. I would recommend working with the linear knots first because those I find tend to be easiest.

Very nice indeed, I could see in a full Mass book. You know... I think maybe you should do a few borders for the Ballad that will be used for all the pictures. Whenever I try to do knotwork it looks all wobbly and unbalanced.

Thank you! :aww: I hope it would look good on the pamplety thingies. We'll see whose thing gets picked though. *shrugs*

Hha, okay. :XD: Though, I'm not very good at knotwork either, and mine turn out very wobbly too, and they always have mistakes. :XD: Notice in the bottom right part of the circle, I made a mistake. Actually two, because I sometimes go a bit too fast. :XD: Heheh, if you want me too, I don't mind. Do you want to make a template kind of thing? One just for the whole lot of them or individualize them? I could make several variations for them too. Hmmm, we really need to quickly come up with some sort of plan to get this going. What should we start with? I'm totally at a loss with how to get this going. :XD:

I hope you win!

Well, yours is certainly much better than mine. A template is good. You're right; we need to get going. I've got some ideas- let me measure some things and then note you.

Are you sure that it is a Catholic Cross? Irish Catholic Cross = Celtic Cross?
Obviously they are similar... but one sign is Christian and second is pagan/ethnic symbol.
I always have problem to recognise which is which...

I meant it to be a Christian symbol, not a symbolic representation of the season or whatnot. The middle circle with the three whirls is supposed to represent the Trinity.
