Bust of Aristotle November 7th, 2011 Pumpkin, steak knife, exacto blade
So.
I'm late.
I know.
But it's never too late for pumpkin carving, is it? Gosh. So, you don't even know how much I've missed carving pumpkins. It is SO MUCH FUN.
So, how to explain this one. Well...I have a very dear friend who loves Aristotle very much (and I mean, really, what's not to love? The guy is AWESOME), so I decided to "make" her a pumpkin this year (it'll long be rotted by the time I see her again, so I'll just send her a picture) of....guess who? Aristotle.
Also, she calls him "Arty" which I think is just adorable (like, she really likes Aristotle. Can you tell?)
And I'll probably have to start carving the rest of my pumpkins soon as well, just because if I don't they'll all start rotting. Which would be quite unfortunate. I actually started this Aristotle pumpkin a week ago but I got so busy that I wasn't able to finish him until tonight. And by then he had begun to...well...let's just say there was a colony of black and red fuzz that also seemed quite taken to the classic Greek philosopher. So I really had to hurry and finish this one before he completely decomposed.
So, up above, is the name "Aristotle" in Greek (Ἀριστοτέλης, or Aristotélēs). with as near as I could figure "Arty" on the other side, as well as my friend's name.
It was supposed to be based on this photo: [link] but the decomposition kind of made him start to squint a bit.
Once again you blow me away with your pumpkin-carving skills. I've probably asked you this before, but do you sketch it out at all first? On the pumpkin? Exacto blades must really help, because I tried doing something more intricate this year [scraping off the outer layer of pumpkin] and it was such a struggle to get it to look right. XD
I can't get over the fact that it's Aristotle. On a pumpkin. With Greek writing in a calligraphy style. And a detailed border. XD Needless to say, great job!
Awwww! Thanks Ela! Ummm, The more intricate parts I sketch out before, usually with red permanent marker (I've found that works best). and yeah, I would *definitely* recommend the exacto blade for small details.
You're wellcome! Anyway, there could be a reference to a Italian expression which refers to "pumpkin-headed men" as stupid men... And if the pumpkin head is Aristotle it's really funny!

Hmm... that's so cool. Pencil is not a pumpkin's friend.
Wow.
My mind is completely blown.
Just wow.
Carry on.
